We close an extraordinary year: production value at 185 million euros and solid financial indices

On the occasion of the meeting to approve the 2021 financial statements, Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente also celebrated 40 years since its founding (as Ciclat Trasporti).

The 2021 financial statements

The annual financial statements of Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente were approved by the members gathered in the assembly.

The cooperative’s performance in 2021 showed strong growth, with a production value that grew by 15%, reaching 185 million euros (urban waste management 114,896,000, transport 36,519,000, and other services 9,860,000). This performance allowed the company to further increase and consolidate its equity, which today stands at approximately 12 million euros.

All financial indices performed well, with the Net Financial Position standing at +379,000 euros and EBITDA reaching 3,296,106 euros. The value of investments made in 2021 was in line with previous years, at 4.5 million euros compared to 4.6 million in 2020.

“We are satisfied because 2021, according to our industrial plan, was supposed to be a year of consolidation,” comments Cesare Bagnari, CEO of Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente. “Instead, in addition to consolidating volumes and equity, we recorded growth above expectations. Furthermore, 2021 represented a decisive year for us in terms of investments in the plant area with the establishment of CFG Ambiente, a subsidiary that will operate in the field of circular economy in Emilia-Romagna, and with the start of the authorization process for the Stargreen plants, another of our subsidiaries in Basilicata.”

40 years of Ciclat Trasporti

At the end of the assembly, the members then celebrated the 40th anniversary of Ciclat Trasporti, the cooperative from which the current Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente originated. An entity founded in 1982, it began its activities within the petrochemical hub of Ravenna and, starting from the 1990s, recorded strong growth in both the transport and environmental sectors.

The 30 founding members, all hauliers who owned their own vehicles, accompanied this growth, also managing the entry into the urban waste management sector and contributing to its establishment and definition in Italy.

The anniversary was celebrated by the cooperative with the publication of a book dedicated to the history of road transport, the role of Ciclat Trasporti in the sector, and the figure of the haulier—a profession currently in crisis due to a severe lack of labor caused by both the costs of obtaining licenses and a lack of interest in a trade considered increasingly difficult.

The book, titled “Mi piaceva guidare” (I Liked Driving), was produced in collaboration with the In Piazza cooperative of Faenza and was given to members at the end of the assembly.

The current year

There are many uncertainties regarding the cooperative’s performance in 2022, comparable to those being experienced by almost all sectors in Italy due to rising costs and the uncertainties generated by the pandemic and the war in Europe.

“Unfortunately, the outbreak of war led to a worsening of the situation regarding costs, both for raw materials and energy, and slowed down growth,” comments Bagnari. “As far as we are concerned, we have maintained a very high level of service intensity, but it is too early to draw conclusions. Regarding our divisions, the integrated urban waste management sector is in a consolidation phase: chasing turnover is no longer a priority, and we are finally in a position to select services with higher margins. In the next three years,” Bagnari concludes, “several large ‘historic’ tenders will expire, and we will be committed to defending our portfolio to maintain our market position.”
