Cesare Bagnari: “In 2021, we anticipate significant development, especially in Central and Southern Italy”

From an initial assessment of the 2020 performance, Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente highlights a growth in volumes, thanks to new contracts becoming fully operational, and a substantial stability in margins, resulting from investments made during the year.

“Some sectors, such as urban waste management, held up well, while others suffered the repercussions of the decline in work recorded by production activities,” explains CEO Cesare Bagnari. “I am referring, in particular, to road freight transport and the management of special waste produced by companies. In general, however, these downturns did not significantly impact the performance which, especially in the second half of the year, was satisfactory overall.”

In 2021, Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente is planning further development, particularly in the Central-Southern area and, specifically, in regions such as Sicily and Puglia, where major sites will be launched in the urban waste management sector. “The areas closely linked to the production system,” Bagnari specifies, “will instead depend on the recovery we all hope for. We are ready and believe we can record an increase in volumes on this front as well, which will lead to an increase in margins for Ciclat and, above all, for our members.”

Among the new activities being planned is also the opening of new waste management and disposal plants in some Southern regions where there is a severe shortage of facilities. “This front is progressing more slowly than we hoped,” concludes Bagnari, “but it remains one of our priority medium-to-long-term objectives. We are still looking for the most suitable sites and hope, at least in Basilicata, to start the authorization process in the first half of 2021. Creating new plants is an essential necessity for many territories, and the technologies available today would allow us to provide a significant response while minimizing the impact on the environment.”
