The contract for the management of waste sorting, public green spaces, and the cleaning of streets and beaches, awarded to Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente together with its partner Roma Costruzioni for the next seven years in the Municipality of Alcamo, in the province of Trapani, is worth approximately 38 million euros.

“For us at Roma Costruzioni,” highlights Giuseppe Romano, the company’s Sole Director, “this is an
extremely important contract, which is joined just these days by the award of a similar contract in the Municipality of Vittoria (province of Ragusa), again together with Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente. These two projects could lead our company to a growth in turnover of almost 300%, an increase in personnel (we expect to reach about 300-350 employees), and an 80% increase in the vehicles in our current fleet.”

Focus on the environment

All vehicles in the fleet deployed for the management of the service in the Municipality of Alcamo are of the latest generation, Euro 6, and LPG-powered. The focus on environmental sustainability is also reflected in the manual sweeping of urban areas.

“We have equipped the street sweeping staff with pedal-assisted electric tricycles,” continues Romano, “with zero environmental impact. This allows our employees to also access the pedestrian zones in the historic center of Alcamo.”

Service innovation

The service provided by Roma Costruzioni and Ciclat Trasporti Ambiente includes the supply of the necessary waste sorting containers to all users, equipped with a transponder that allows service personnel to read the type and quantity of waste disposed of. Furthermore, all vehicles used will be equipped with a tracking system connected to a platform capable of determining the exact route of each vehicle.

“We have been testing this control and tracking system together with Ciclat for about three years, using it in other areas,” Romano continues. “The purpose of this precision technology is twofold: it allows public administrations to adopt a pay-as-you-throw billing system based on the user’s actual consumption, and it protects us from potential disputes regarding the service from clients. Thanks to this system, we are able to record and demonstrate every phase of the services performed and the routes taken. Additionally, we have placed several ecological islands within the municipal area, which can be accessed via health card, allowing residents to dispose of their waste when it is not possible to wait for the scheduled collection days.”
